Classic & Simple Cakes
One of the most popular requests I receive via email every day is for a “classic and simple” wedding cake.
As a result, I created several options for clients whose ideal cake fits that description:
MICRO-WEDDING OPTION:
The Micro-Weddings range in my online store features many classic, simple, and beautiful designs. You can find them all HERE. Using my online store is the easiest and fastest way to order a cake. Options range from 8-10 servings as a single tier, all the way up to 60 servings as a large two-tier, with the optional add-on of a kitchen cake for additional servings needed.
Micro-Wedding Cakes are priced from $140 for a single tier, up to $950 for a large two-tier including custom sugar flowers.
CUSTOM OPTION:
If you’re envisioning something outside of the scope of my online store, I would be happy to create a more customized design for you, while remaining within the “classic & simple” brief. You can find examples of these cakes below, in this gallery.
Our minimum order for all custom designs is $500 for a single tier, and $1,000 for multiple tiers. Classic & Simple cake pricing typically ranges from $15 to $20 per serving, with the final cost determined by the number of servings (or tiers) required for your guest count, and the intricacy of the cake design. Delivery fees are calculated based on distance to your venue, and do not count towards the minimum. Not all cakes are eligible for delivery, and most cakes of fewer than three tiers must be picked up from my West Seattle studio. Please inquire for answers to any questions.
All of my Classic & Simple cakes pictured below have been finished with Swiss meringue buttercream, which is the basis for all my fillings & frostings. It’s delightfully silky, never tooth-achingly sweet, and is also beautiful to look at.
All of the flowers pictured on our cakes below are handmade SUGAR FLOWERS, crafted by me, in my studio (for real!).
Ordering Process
Step 1: Evaluate Options & Confirm Availability
Review the details on my Wedding FAQ page, as well as my Pricing page, and you’ll have a comprehensive grasp of which of my offerings would be the best fit for your tastes and budget.
First, I’d recommend browsing through the Micro-Wedding Cakes (and also the Signature Cakes) catalogs in my online store. You may find the exact cake design you’re looking for, and you’ll be able to place the order directly online.
Alternatively, if you would like to explore options for a custom cake, please note my minimums ($500 for a single tier, and $1,000 for multiple tiers). Submit an inquiry with details of what you’re looking for, and I’ll check my calendar to make sure I can accommodate a wedding cake order for your date.
Step 2: Cake Tasting
My biweekly Cake Tasting opportunity allows you to pre-order your own selection of flavors from my current menu, to take home and enjoy. Sample my best selling cake flavors and select your favorite combination.
Step 3: Pick Out Your Dream Cake
After your tasting, let me know which flavor(s) you’ve picked as the winner and we’ll go over the details for your cake design via email. You’ll pick a buttercream finish for your cake’s exterior, from the existing options in the gallery below (e.g. “Stucco”, “Pleated”, “Smooth with Deckled Edge”, etc).
You’ll then pick a size for your cake, based on your guest count (e.g. three-tier to serve 75; four-tier to serve 120; etc). I’ll make recommendations regarding the optimal size of your cake, based on your guest count and the logistics of setup / location of venue. Finally, you’ll specify which type and color you’d like for the custom sugar flowers that I’ll be creating for your cake, if any.
Please note that we do NOT recommend having fresh flowers from your florist as decorations for your cake, as they are contaminated with pesticides, herbicides, dirt, bacteria, and sometimes even natural toxins (e.g. hydrangeas, anemones, hellebores, and many other flowers that are inherently poisonous to humans — whether they’re grown organically or not). Despite their prevalence as cake adornments, fresh flowers are not food safe! That’s why SUGAR flowers were invented, and it’s why I work so hard to keep this wonderful art form alive.
Step 4: Order Confirmation & Payment
Once you’ve picked out your design, I’ll discuss the logistics of delivery or pickup with you, and will invoice you for payment of your cake. Payments are typically split into two (i.e. 50% upon booking, and 50% two weeks before your wedding). If your event will take place within four weeks of booking, I ask for payment in full upfront to confirm your order.
Step 5: Submit Final RSVPs
Send us your final RSVP total no later than 3 weeks out. I can adjust the order accordingly, and confirm your final balance due (if relevant). Your balance must be settled no later than 14 days prior to your wedding.
If there are any design details outstanding from Step 3 (i.e. floral design or color palette) that have since been finalized with your florist or planner, I’ll wrap these up with you by 4-6 weeks out.
Step 6: Cake Delivery
If your cake will be delivered by me or my third-party service, relax while we liaise directly with your event planner to confirm logistical details, and personally set up your cake on the day — both punctually and professionally. If you’ll be picking up your cake or have nominated a friend or family member to do so, rest assured that upon pickup, I’ll provide thorough verbal and written instructions for handling the cake, and will help load your order into your vehicle to ensure that everything is properly situated for the journey.
Need help deciding?
If you’re in the throes of wedding planning and can’t decide whether you’d like a Micro-Wedding Cake from my online store, or a custom-designed vintage cake, or even a super intricate Fine Art cake, that’s OK! Drop me a line and I’ll make recommendations after getting to know you a little better.
