Classic & Simple Cakes
All of our Classic & Simple cakes pictured below have been finished with Swiss meringue buttercream, which is the basis for all our fillings & frostings. It’s delightfully silky, never tooth-achingly sweet, and is also beautiful to look at.
All of the flowers pictured on our cakes below are handmade SUGAR FLOWERS, crafted by us, in our studio (for real!).
Our Classic & Simple cakes are designed for events with a MINIMUM OF 60 GUESTS. If you’re expecting fewer guests than this, our Micro-Wedding Cakes (available to order in our online store) would be a great fit.
Depending on tier dimensions:
Three-tiered cakes serve 60-100
Four-tiered cakes serve 110-200
Five-tiered cakes serve 180-300+
For events with more than 60 guests, we can provide an undecorated kitchen cake for any additional servings required, to help contain costs. Our smallest kitchen cake serves 32. Or, you can simply choose to have a larger cake out on display (i.e. four, five, or even six tiers) — or an impressive DUO or TRIO of cakes instead!
Base price range: $900-$1,500 (three-tier); $1,650-$3,000 (four-tier) — sugar flowers and/or additional decor (sugar pet figurines, character toppers, monograms, etc) are not included in the base price
DELIVERY IS REQUIRED for all Classic & Simple Cakes. These cakes are tall and require assembly on site by a member of our team, to ensure the stability of the finished product. Delivery fees are based on distance to your venue.
NOTE: If your venue falls beyond a 50-mile radius from our Seattle studio, or can only be reached by ferry, we will NOT be able to deliver your Classic & Simple cake. In this instance, we recommend selecting a single- or two-tiered cake (plus optional kitchen cake for any extra servings needed) that can be picked up from our studio and self-transported. Alternatively, you can opt for a Fine Art cake, which would be eligible for delivery beyond a 50-mile radius (and/or via ferry).
Classic & Simple Cakes: Ordering Process
Step 1: Evaluate Options & Confirm Availability
Review the details on our Wedding FAQ page, as well as our Pricing page, and you’ll have a comprehensive grasp of which of our offerings would be the best fit for your tastes and budget.
Note that our Classic & Simple cakes are designed for events with a minimum of 60 guests. If you’re looking for something smaller than this, please browse through the Micro-Wedding Cakes or Signature Cakes in our online store.
Submit an inquiry, and we’ll check our calendar to make sure we can accommodate a wedding cake order for your date.
Step 2: Cake Tasting
Our biweekly Cake Tasting opportunity allows you to pre-order your own selection of flavors from our current menu, to take home and enjoy. Sample our best selling cake flavors and select your favorite combination.
Step 3: Pick Out Your Dream Cake
After your tasting, let us know which flavor(s) you’ve picked as the winner and we’ll go over the details for your cake design via email. You’ll pick a buttercream finish for your cake’s exterior, from the existing options in the gallery below (e.g. “Stucco”, “Pleated”, “Smooth with Deckled Edge”, etc).
You’ll then pick a size for your cake, based on your guest count (e.g. three-tier to serve 75; four-tier to serve 120; etc). We’ll make recommendations regarding the optimal size of your cake, based on your guest count and the logistics of setup / location of venue. Finally, you’ll specify which type and color you’d like for the custom sugar flowers we’ll be creating for your cake, if any.
Please note that we do NOT recommend having fresh flowers from your florist as decorations for your cake, as they are contaminated with pesticides, herbicides, dirt, bacteria, and sometimes even natural toxins (e.g. hydrangeas, anemones, hellebores, and many other flowers that are inherently poisonous to humans — whether they’re grown organically or not). Despite their prevalence as cake adornments, fresh flowers are not food safe! That’s why SUGAR flowers were invented, and it’s why we work so hard to keep this wonderful art form alive.
Step 4: Order Confirmation & Payment
Once you’ve picked out your design, we’ll discuss the logistics of delivery or pickup with you, and we’ll invoice you for payment of your cake. Payments are typically split into two (i.e. 50% upon booking, and 50% two weeks before your wedding).
Step 5: Submit Final RSVPs
Send us your final RSVP total no later than 3 weeks out. We’ll adjust the order accordingly, and confirm your final balance due (if relevant). Your balance must be settled no later than 14 days prior to your wedding.
If there are any design details outstanding from Step 3 (i.e. floral design or color palette) that have since been finalized with your florist or planner, we’ll wrap these up with you by 4-6 weeks out.
Step 6: Cake Delivery
Relax while we liaise directly with your event planner to confirm logistical details, and personally set up your cake on the day — both punctually and professionally.
