Sugar Flower Workshop: November 2019

October 31, 2019

As you will have seen in our previous blog post, we’ve launched two new workshops (with more to come!) for 2020, centered on foundational skills in baking and buttercream work. BUT, for those of you who’ve been eagerly waiting for our next sugar flower workshop — your time has come!

November 18-20, 2019 (three-day class)

DAHLIA, ORCHID, GARDENIA

We welcome beginners and seasoned professionals alike!

Carla (that’s me) will be teaching an intensive three-day sugar flower workshop from Monday Nov 18th through Wednesday Nov 20th, 2019. We schedule these classes on weekdays because they’re typically designed for professional cake artists, but we always have at least one or two students in class who have NEVER touched gum paste before or at least have never made flowers with it. It’s always incredibly gratifying to see the gorgeous results they can achieve after only a few days of instruction and guidance! So, please don’t hesitate to sign up even if you consider yourself a total beginner.

(By the way, if your schedule prevents you from ever making it to a weekday sugar flower workshop, I would love to host you for a private class instead. See our website — scroll down to “Create Your Own Workshop” — for more details.)

November’s workshop is centered on the tricky-but-rewarding dahlia (always a favorite for Fall wedding cakes!), the deceptively simple (and perpetually stunning) orchid, and the highly-prized gardenia with its magnificent center spiral. These are flowers that I taught myself how to make, since there were no good YouTube tutorials for them a decade ago! I’ve since spent years developing my techniques for them so that I get beautiful results every time, and can create variations as needed to suit the overall look and feel of the particular cake I’m working on. I’d love to pass these skills on to others and I look forward to seeing you in class next month (or at one of our upcoming Spring 2020 sugar flower workshops, if you can’t make it to this one!).

On our site, you’ll find lots more details regarding the workshop. Email me (carla@honeycrumb.com) or call my cell (425 577 9220) to sign up! We’ve already sold some seats via our early-bird mailing list.
