Hello there!

I’m Carla Callahan — slayer of cake! I love everything about my job, from creating sugar flowers to match the ones in your centerpieces, to making your guests GASP in amazement at how silky the buttercream is, to helping you with vendor recommendations for the rest of your wedding planning process (I’ve got all the good ones on speed dial).

I’ve been a Seattle-based pastry chef for 14 years and counting. My sense of humor, adventurous and determined spirit, keen eye for detail, and excellent manual dexterity all combine synergistically when I’m creating cakes for my clients.

I want you to be WOWED by your cake and desserts. You deserve beautiful, delicious memories. I am so honored and excited to be part of it all. When clients or their photographers send me images after the event is over, the first thing I scroll down to find is the cake-cutting moment. I do a **happy dance** when I see you cut a big slice and grin while sharing your first bite as a married pair.

I am married to my favorite and most magical human on earth, Loren. He’s an award-winning photojournalist turned wedding photographer. We’re each other’s biggest fans, and we’re happiest when cooking dinner together, chasing powder at Whistler or Crystal Mountain, or working a wedding together (I bake, he shoots!). Love fills my life and it overflows into my cakes, too. I hope you can taste it.

I am here for you! Honey Crumb is here for you… with all the fun, fancy, unforgettable desserts. Are you in?

Quick Question…

Are there any cakes ready for pickup today?

So sorry, but no! All of our cakes are made to order. We don’t carry cakes for sale to walk-in customers, as we are a custom cake studio rather than a retail bakery. Please visit our online shop for cakes that can be prepared with a week or two of lead time, depending on our seasonal availability.

How much lead time is required for a cake order?

We generally require at least 1-2 weeks of lead time for most SMALL cake orders. During peak wedding season (May through September), we need much more lead time than this. Larger and more intricate cakes require more planning time, regardless of the season (we recommend 1-3 months for “Classic & Simple” wedding cakes, and 3-9 months for Fine Art wedding cakes).

However, you can sometimes snap up a pre-designed cake or other baked treats from our online shop with just 4 business days’ notice (depending on our schedule).

How much do the cakes cost?

An overview of our Pricing can be found here.

The general rule is, pricing for custom-designed cakes is based on the size of the cake and the intricacy of the design. If you have a photo of a cake you’d like, you can email it to us and we’ll give you a quote. If you’d like us to design a cake specifically for you, you can send over any inspiration photos you have (and specify a budget you’d like to stick to), and we can go from there.

Pricing is much simpler for the catalog cakes in our online shop, as they have already been designed, and the cake sizes are pre-determined.

Do you offer tastings? In-person consultations?

We offer regular Cake Tastings monthly, in the form of a delicious “to go” pack of four flavors. Pre-order yours here. WE choose the flavors in the tasting, YOU choose your winners! Upon request, we can also accommodate custom flavor selections for tasting (incl. for vegan or gluten-free cake orders), if you’d prefer to order a set of mini cakes.

We DO NOT host any in-person consultations, and haven’t since 2020. We’ve found it’s much more efficient and fun (for everyone!) if you do the tasting in the comfort of your own home, and we discuss and finalize all the details for your cake order via email or phone, at your leisure — rather than having to cram the whole process into a 45-min appointment.

Do you have anything for people with dietary restrictions?

YES! We offer a variety of gluten-free, dairy-free, eggless, or vegan cakes (and other baked goods). Please keep in mind that we typically need extra lead time for unusual requests, and additional fees apply. Note: We don’t have a separate kitchen for special orders, and therefore cannot guarantee that our products will be free of all allergens. Having said that, our team is thoroughly trained in avoiding cross-contact, and we take the utmost care to wash and sanitize our tools and equipment between batches.

Can these sugar flowers be eaten?

Gumpaste flowers are food safe, and are intended to become lasting keepsakes once your event is over. They’re made primarily of sugar, but also contain certain inedible structural elements (e.g. cotton stamens, floral wire, floral tape, etc). The sugar dough that they’re made from dries pretty hard and becomes quite brittle, which is not the most pleasant texture to eat! It’s far better to keep sugar flowers as a memento of your celebration, as they will last forever if stored or displayed correctly. (Simply keep them away from moisture, which melts them, and direct sunlight, which fades their colors.) Many of our clients choose to showcase their flowers in an acrylic box or under a glass dome in their homes. You can see how chef Carla chose to display the sugar flowers from her own wedding cake HERE.

Do you offer any classes / workshops?

All our free tutorials are published on our YouTube channel. We also host in-person workshops and masterclasses several times each year, as our production schedule allows. Our current in-person group workshop schedule is posted HERE.

Finally, it’s a good idea to follow our Instagram page. We always post workshop announcements there as well.

Where did the name “Honey Crumb” come from?

Our owner (Carla) dreamed up the name one night in 2010 — and was lucky enough to discover that the domain name was still available…

“Honey” relates to her graduate training as an environmental policy maker, at which time she became very interested in bees and the role of industrial agriculture (and neonicotinoid pesticides) in colony collapse. Without bees, we humans wouldn’t have anything to eat. “Crumb” relates to the biggest compliment that a baker can get — namely, when there’s nothing left on the cake plate except crumbs. Put the two together, and you get “Honey Crumb” — a name that’s easy to remember, fun to say, and a little nostalgic!
