I delivered a cute, monster-themed birthday cake to Edmonds today. The design was directly inspired by the party invitations, created by the baby boy's beautiful grandmother (who is a designer herself). When she ordered the cake from me, she e-mailed me a proof of the invitations, along with a color guide for the cake (based on M&Ms colors).
The final invitation featured orange horns on the monster, and some orange polka dots added to the border. So, with a color scheme of bright green, bright turquoise/blue, and orange, I created a buttercream cake with custom-colored gumpaste details. The keepsake monster cake topper was wired for easy removal before serving the cake. I also created a little coordinating smash cake for Hayden.
Flavors were Dalmation cake with cream-cheese filling (main cake), and white cake with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream (smash cake).
