I will have the pleasure of making Alyssa's wedding cake in a few months, and was lucky enough to get to make her bridal shower cake last weekend, too! She collected the cake on Saturday morning with plenty of time to spare before the start of the tea party celebration that her mother had planned. The shower cake is a twist on the design of her actual wedding cake, without giving too much away!
I made the oversized couture bow from gumpaste, and added a fabric, lace, and feather adornment as a finishing touch. The ruffled flower was wired for easy removal before cutting the cake (I mentioned to Alyssa that it could be repurposed as a brooch or hair fascinator!). The bow itself was more peach/ivory in person, but somehow looks pale pink in the photos.
I love this cake; it's so pretty and contemporary, and captures the look of a couture bridal sash or feathered hat. How appropriate for a bridal shower!
The cake was completely gluten- and dairy-free. The top was GF Red Velvet with 'cream-cheese' filling and DF Italian meringue buttercream frosting; the bottom tier was GF Lemon Pucker with the same buttercream beneath the marshmallow fondant.
