Topsy-Turvy Stork Cake for a Baby Shower

My clients picked the cutest stork invitation from TinyPrints for their baby shower, which became the inspiration for the cake design.

I drew them two sketches, one of which was a topsy-turvy cake, which they loved.  We brought in some brown, along with the original color scheme of orange, blue, and white, to echo the color palette of all the shower decorations.  The final cake is really cute, if I say so myself!

Flavors were lavender-honey-lemon cake with white chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream filling and frosting (bottom tier) and chocolate cake with luscious mixed berry buttercream filling and vanilla meringue frosting (top tier).  The cake was covered in homemade marshmallow fondant and all the decorations are edible.

It was a hit!  Here's what the lovely mother-to-be wrote me about the cake:

Hi Carla,
Just wanted to tell you we got rave reviews on the cake. People loved looking at it and of course they devoured it. So much so, I didn't even get to try the chocolate part! It was gone before I could get to it :(
Thank you so much for the beautiful cake. It was absolutely perfect and the talk of the shower. :)

So, here's the stork from the invitation:
